WHAT IS ADVENTURES IN CHARITY?
An IRS approved 501(c)(3) charity that raises money for numerous worthy causes. Last year, those causes included the American Heart Association, A Better Life Pet Rescue, The Actor’s Fund, The American Diabetes Association, the Garden Theatre, and many more.
WHO PICKS THE CHARITIES THAT GET THE MONEY?
The actors…and attendees. The actors each pick a charity (Some may be duplicates). 70% of the money raised is split evenly among the charities represented; by vote of the attendees, the top vote-getting charity gets an extra 15%, second an extra 10%, third an extra 5%.
IS MY TICKET TAX-DEDUCTIBLE?
Partially. The IRS lets you deduct what you paid, minus the actual value of the ticket. For planning purposes, figure the actual value of the ticket as $7.50 for Theater, $15.00 for Jr. Adventurer, $20.00 for Adventurer, $35.00 for Colonel VIP.
IS THIS A DISNEY EVENT?
No. Although the entertainers have all performed at Walt Disney World, Adventures in Charity is not connected with Disney or affiliated with any of the Walt Disney Companies in any way.
WHAT IS THE CONNECTION WITH CONGALOOSH?
The connection is that the founder and Chairman of the Board of Adventures in Charity, Rob Croskery, was the founder of ConGaloosh, Inc. and served as its chairman for the first two years of ConGaloosh (when it was held in the Adventurer’s Club and subsequently in the Indiana Jones adventure at Hollywood Studios). The current operators of ConGaloosh made room in the schedule of ConGaloosh in 2013 for this event. Last year, ConGaloosh held several independent events rather than a weekend convention. It is our understanding that they would like to do a “Dapper Dan’s” meet earlier in the day on October 3, and for that reason we are scheduling no activities prior to the cocktail hour on Saturday.
ARE MY SEATS ASSIGNED?
Yes. This year, even all seats are assigned. Guests who purchase their tickets first will get the best available in their category. The reason is that we want the attendees to feel free to peruse the silent auction and displays without worrying unduly about having to stay and “save” a seat. For table seating, the tables are assigned, but not the specific seats. There are 4 persons per table.
WHAT IS THE V.I.P PARTY?
It comes with Jr. Adventurer, Adventurer, and Colonel VIP tickets. It is a party after the show to meet the cast, take pictures, and raise a glass or two. If you purachase a Theater seat and wish to join the party, you can make an upgrade purchase.
WHO CHOOSES THE ACTORS THAT PARTICIPATE AND HOW ARE THEY CHOSEN?
This year we have handed the torch to Karl Ockstadt, Adventurer nonpareil and our emcee for the evening. Many of our actors are returnees. However, as the performers are equity actors in demand, some have commitments for other gigs and cannot be there this year. And, of course, there may well be line-up changes as we get closer to the show. Expect a great time and show whoever shows up!
